Last week I attended The Next Web Conference 2012 in the Gashouder in Amsterdam with a special mission.. To spend the night on stage.

AirBnB and TNW teamed up and threw this listing into the ether, which I happily booked. I didn’t know if it was a joke or not, but then again, I knew it wasn’t. So I booked it and went to Amsterdam for a night which turned out to be filled with great fun with AirBnB co-founder Joe, it’s first employee Christopher, Andre, Simon and of course Simone.

The next morning, Joe gave a talk about how we got to this point, which we even helped him practice with the night before. The result is what you’re probably watching right now.

Yes Joe, we had a great night. No Joe, nothing funky happened apart from the pizza’s we ordered.

On a side-note, we’re planning a road trip through spain for this summer, and we’ll be checking into at least 5 beds/rooms/villas/boats/caves listed on AirBnB. We’ll keep you updated as well!

So the 24th of February Tom Trago will spin at Toffler during the start of the new club night SODA. This should be the beginning of something cool.

Toffler is a club in Rotterdam situated in an old underground tunnel which used to be club Catwalk. The Catwalk was a great place for young talent as it gave them plenty of opportunities to launch. The problem, if you ask me, was that they let it go out of control. Toffler is something new but still offers young talent a chance, like the guys behind SODA, which are bringing in some already manifested talent.

Here’s a look at the new Toffler, which opened a couple of months ago:

Do you like your gaming old school with a dash of open web standards thrown in? The original Command and Conquer has been turned into an HTML5 game, playable in the browser. It’s buggy and a bit awkward, but it’ll still put smiles on retro gaming fans’ faces.

Woa! Thank god it doesn’t work right now, otherwise I wouldn’t have picked up what I was doing for a very long time.

Especially your boring ‘standard’ windows you have right now. Wouldn’t this be cool as soon as it comes in your car?

But seriously now, this is a lot better than things like 3D tv and the likes, partially because it’s also largely solar powered. Be sure to watch the video and let me know what you think these beauties will cost when they get released on the market.

I can’t wait till I have my own apartment with a 60 inch Smart Window instead of a ‘bulky’ flat screen.

A few years ago, solar energy was all the hype. I remember quite well how anyone was excited about being able to create their own energy and sell their unused energy back to the grid.

That enthusiasm may have peeked too early, since it was still too expensive too incorporate solar panels onto a building. If you watch this video tho, you might be willing to start incorporating solar right away. If you ask me, the one thing missing is an affordable segment of solar panels.

Right now you can buy solar panels to charge your gadgets or you can get a professional setup installed on your roof. Nothing in between as far as I can see. Solar needs the hype that 3D-printers have, which are getting cheaper and cheaper every day.

I just wanted too share this video with everyone, since I truly believe this is a big part of the solution. Another part of the solution, eating less meat, is probably the easiest to achieve but also one of the least populair. Cars with electric motors are being rolled out as we speak and practically everyone wants one, but can’t afford it. Everyone can afford eating less meat but most won’t even try.

I’m definitely not a vegetarian and I don’t want to sound all preachy but I do not understand that the easiest solution isn’t being shared and tried. If you ask me how to solve a growing debt and energy crisis, you would get a short response: start with taxing meat.

Sure everyone should be able to eat meat every once in a while, but we also would like our children to survive the coming decades.
